In 2018, you no longer have to be a trained photographer in order to be able to produce a good photo, but we all still need some kind of photo editing software to remove imperfections from the pictures we take with our DSLRs and Smartphones. Most people are just looking for a fast way to fix their photos; fortunately, there are thousands of different software, including the recently launched Wondershare’s consumer-level photo editor named Fotophire that enables its users to easily edit photos with powerful tools.
I was given the opportunity to test the software’s capabilities and in this review, I will share with you some of my thoughts and impressions. Let’s have a look at what Fotophire has to offer.
Interface and Usability:
The Fotophire’s interface is elegant, modern and well-organized, so even if you are using the software for the first time you’ll have no trouble finding your way around it. Regardless which of the editor’s modes you decide to use, the software will first take you to the mode’s welcome page where you can select the Open option if you would like to import a new file or Recent Files to use an image you’ve already worked with.
The current version of the software will not allow you to open two or more images at the same time. What impressed me the most was the fact that the software enabled me to open RAW photo files and save them as JPEGs.
Highlighted features:
Fotophire’s current version has Photo Editor, Photo Cutter, and Photo Eraser modes, and you can run all three modes simultaneously. This, in my experience, has proven to be quite convenient when working on projects that require several different photo editing operations.
Remove unwanted objects with Photo Eraser:
This mode contains three tools, Crop, Erase, and Clone. Each tool can be easily selected from the toolbar that is located on the right side of the screen. The Erase feature offers several different selection tools, such as Rectangle Selection or Polygon Selection, but the Selection Brush tool has provided me with the greatest level of precision and creative freedom.
Once all areas of the photo you want to erase are selected, you simply have to click on the Erase button. The software will then automatically copy the pixels from the surrounding area. In my experience, the Erase tool has performed perfectly on pictures that don’t have complicated backgrounds. I found that the Clone option is a better choice for images with complex compositions because it enabled me to pick the area of the photo from which I wanted to copy pixels onto the object I decided to remove from the picture.
Change Image Background Easily in Photo Cutter:
Like the Photo Eraser mode Photo Cutter also has to offer three options, Cut-Out, Photomontage, and Crop. Removing a background from a photo isn’t a particularly complicated process unless you have to work around sensitive areas like human hair or any other object that has a lot of details. Fotophire has performed remarkably well when faced with the challenge of cutting out a model whose hair was a mess, from a background that couldn’t be described as perfect.
The Paint Areas to Keep is particularly useful if you unintentionally paint over objects you actually want to keep in the photo with a Paint Areas to Remove tool. Once you paint over the background of the photo, the software automatically makes that area transparent.
The Photomontage tool is awesome because it lets you superimpose images from which you removed the background and it allows you to add your own backgrounds to your photo collages.
Perfect Photos with Photo Editor:
Once you’ve finished working in Photo Cutter or Photo Eraser mode, you have to save the photo to your hard drive in order to be able to open it in the Photo Editor mode. The Fotophire Photo Editor mode offers hundreds of photo effects, its color correction tools exceed all expectations and its font collection features more options than you can use in a lifetime.
Applying effects or textures can be done with a simple click and you can also undo each wrong turn by simply clicking on the Undo icon. Light Leak, Film or Grain and all other effects and textures are fully customizable, so you can choose the blend mode and adjust the Opacity slider to create a perfect effect on your photo.
Options like Creative Blur and Color Balance are my personal favorites because they’ve enabled me to add an artistic touch to the photos.
Compatibility:
At the moment, Fotophire is only available on Windows OS, but this is likely to change on future updates of the software since all other Wondershare’s products are compatible with both Mac and PC operating systems.
You will need a 32 or 64-bit Windows 7 or a more recent version of the OS as well as 1GHz Intel Pentium processor and at least 1GB of RAM memory in order to run Fotophire smoothly. Compared to professional photo editing programs, Fotophire is relatively small, since it will only take 100MB of your hard drive space.
Price & Plan:
If you are still having doubts about Fotophire’s capabilities you can download it for a free trial spin, and then decide whether or not you want to purchase the software. The One Year License costs just $59,99 and for such a small amount of money you’ll get access to all three photo editing modes, get rid of the watermark, and if you are not happy with the product you can get a full refund within 30 days.
Verdict:
When I set out to test Fotophire, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but after just a few edited photos I was sure that Wondershare’s photo editor Fotophire is among the very best consumer-level photo editors on the market. Sure, professional photographers are going to nag about the lack of professional photo editing tools or limited sizes of pictures exported from the software, but Fotophire actually provides more high-end features than I ever expected.
In my opinion, this is a great photo editor that will enable you to edit your photos before posting them on social media or help you to easily remove any unwanted objects or persons from your photos. I also think that Fotophire can be quite useful to inexperienced photo editors, because it may assist them in avoiding a steep learning curve they would experience if they started using Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Lightroom Classic CC.
