WhatsApp has now begun to enable voice calls on the Jio Phone and other KaiOS-based handsets on the marketplace. Jio Phone and other smart feature phone users will be able to make WhatsApp audio calls on their handsets starting today.
WhatsApp Support For Jio Phone & Other KaiOS Feature Phones
Recently, the messaging behemoth began pushing out a new upgrade for its KaiOS app. Users of Jio Phones and other KaiOS phones may simply upgrade WhatsApp to the newest version (v2.2110.41) to enable the function.
For those who are unaware, WhatsApp was first made available for KaiOS-based handsets in 2018.
Since then, the app has ranked first among KaiOS non-system apps in terms of monthly active users globally. While KaiOS users could exchange messages on WhatsApp, they couldn’t conduct audio calls until today.
WhatsApp’s audio calling function was first made available to smartphone users in 2015. However, this capability was not added to the company’s online platform until recently.
Following the release of audio/video calling for WhatsApp desktop and online, the firm has now added voice calling on the KaiOS platform.
Despite the fact that the update adds voice calling capabilities to the Jio Phone and other KaiOS devices, WhatsApp’s voice calling function is based on VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) technology.
As a result, in order to use the function on the aforementioned devices, users must be connected to a Wi-Fi or cellular network. It will run on devices with at least 512MB of RAM.
Once customers connect their devices to the internet, they will be able to use WhatsApp to make phone calls to friends and family members.
Furthermore, customers will be able to receive voice calls on their smartphones just like regular calls if they keep their devices linked to the internet at all times.
So, if you own a Jio Phone or any KaiOS-based handset, you should upgrade WhatsApp right immediately to take use of the function. It is a very important addition since it will allow feature phone users to communicate with their loved ones via voice calls at a reasonable cost.
