MediaTek has unveiled two new CPUs to power future mid-range 5G smartphones, after the debut of the Dimensity 900 and 800U chipsets earlier this year. The new chipsets, dubbed Dimensity 920 and Dimensity 810, provide improved performance, dual-SIM 5G compatibility, and better photography capabilities for 5G phones.

MediaTek Dimensity 920
From the Dimensity 920 forward, the chipset offers considerable improvements over its predecessors in the 900-series. 6nm-based CPU with 2.5GHz Cortex-A78 cores and integrated Mali-G68 MC4 GPU. MediaTek HyperEngine 3.0 boosts gaming performance by 9 percent by supporting up to LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage.
There is also the ability to dynamically alter the refresh rate on mobile devices based on the content. For 4K video recording, the camera has a hardware-accelerated 4K image signal processor that supports a sensor of up to 108MP and a flagship-level image signal processor that enables HDR natively.
In order to enable hardware-based 4K HDR video capture, the chipset strikes a compromise between performance, power, and cost. Aside from that, it supports a dual 5G SIM, dual VoNR, Bluetooth 5.2, and Wi-Fi 6 technologies.
MediaTek Dimensity 810
A similar manufacturing process is used for the Dimensity 810 chipset. Cortex-A76 cores running at 2.4GHz make up its octa-core architecture. As well as 120Hz display compatibility for mid-range 5G devices, enhanced noise reduction for improved low-light images are also included in the update. A 64-megapixel camera is supported by the chipset.
Additionally, Dimensity 810 offers sophisticated camera capabilities, such as creative AI-color, developed in conjunction with Arcsoft. MediaTek HyperEngine 2.0 support and an efficient resource management system are also included to improve gaming performance.
If you’re wondering when these phones will be available, MediaTek claims they’ll arrive in the third quarter of 2021. Between October and December should be a good time for phone companies to deliver handsets featuring these processors.
