Bluboo S1 Review: First impression

It is a black box that measures 17.30 x 17.30 x 4.60 cm and has the Smartphone model in gold in the center. The rest does not have more details, so we find a minimalist design typical of Chinese companies. Inside we will find the USB-C cable, a compatible charger with fast charge, the Smartphone, a screen protector and a silicone back cover, which is quite pleasant to the touch.

A well-structured package if we consider that you are paying less than $160. The charger and cable come in white, making a nice contrast with the case and the smartphone.

Bluboo S1 Review: Design

The first thing that comes to my mind when I see the design of this Smartphone is the word “incredible”. Bluboo has designed a really beautiful and elegant smartphone. It is probably mainly due to the fact that the front part is completely the screen, that is, it has really minimal bezels. 90% of the mobile is given by the screen, it is impossible not to be surprised.

It is built of glass and plastic with dimensions of 14.86 x 7.43 x 0.79 cm and a weight of 170 grams. Currently, it is available in white and black, in my opinion, the black version is more stylized but it is a completely personal opinion.

Below the screen, in the only possible space is the capacitive fingerprint scanner, which is also a button that can be used for navigation. We also have in the front part the magnetic sensor and the gyroscope sometimes omitted in low budget equipment.

It is nice to see a USB port type C on the bottom, as we know the advantages that this represents compared to the old USB 2.0. Another step that Bluboo has taken bravely is to eliminate the Jack 3.5 mm headphone jack, but of course, in turn, it includes a C-type adapter to 3.5 mm Jack to allow us to enjoy our music quietly. The speaker located at the bottom has an excellent sound, really no complaint about it.

In the back, we will find its double camera accompanied by the dual LED flash and the golden manufacturer’s logo located in the middle of Smartphone. Of rest, we found only a smooth and bright surface well worked, no doubt an excellent external work by Bluboo.

Bluboo S1 Review: Screen

One of the strengths of this Smartphone is its excellent 5.5-inch IPS LCD screen courtesy of Sharp, with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 Full HD and a density of 401 pixels per inch. Actually the size and quality of the panel colors stand out a lot, especially if we consider the fact of the price of the device.

It has curved 2.5D glass, a contrast ratio of 1400: 1 and protection against scratches and bumps thanks to the Corning Gorilla Glass 4. No doubt a beautiful screen and also very resistant. If we talk about brightness, it fits quite well, even outdoors or in sunlight.

Bluboo S1 Review: Hardware

If we examine the hardware of the device, we will find Helio P25 MT6757T processor courtesy of Mediatek, with 4 ARM Cortex-A53 cores operating at 2.5 GHz and another 4 ARM Cortex-A53 at 1.4 GHz. Comes with an ARM Mali-T880 GPU MP2,  with 4 GB of RAM and with 64 GB of internal storage, but has the ability to expand up to 256 GB through an external micro SD memory (which is not included in the package).

With these specifications, the Bluboo S1 is able to obtain good performance figures, quite interesting compared to other Smartphones of the same price range. In AnTuTu it obtained 56631 points, while in Geekbench we have 826 for the single-core use and 3343 for the multi-core.

If we talk about games, It has good performance in 3D, titles such as Modern Combat 5, Asphalt 8 and Skyforce were executed very well and presented no problems, with the only novelty that at 15-20 minutes of play you begin to notice that the Smartphone temperature increases, but we must say that that is practically a normal fact in all smartphones under this use nowadays.

Bluboo S1 Review: Operating system

The use of Android Nougat 7.0 provides a decent software experience, one of the most notable features is that it presents the function of split screen in multiple tasks, but the recording of the screen is not available, an option that could be expected in a next update.

As for the management of RAM I think you can make some improvements, not in the amount, but in the processing of it, because in my opinion sometimes the phone tends to recharge certain Apps a little more than they should. It is likely that this detail will be corrected with an update, since the software sometimes feels a bit rushed and not fluid enough. With some luck Bluboo should provide one very soon.

Bluboo S1 Review: Camera

This is another section in which Bluboo highlights, in the back we will find a set of dual cameras like most Chinese phones these days, the main one is a 13 MP IMX214 Exmor sensor which is capable of making large shots, with Natural colors and very little on exposure. Of course, the photos with low lighting have a remarkable impact on the quality, since it drops noticeably, but even $ 300 phones suffer with this detail.

The Secondary is 3 MP and is totally oriented for the Bokeh effect, when using it you notice a noticeable delay, but yes, the final results are quite nice.

A detail that I liked is that it has the ability to take images in black and white, with a built-in filter, which makes excellent shots in my opinion. You can record video up to 4K resolution and the quality is really good when there is light in the room, maybe with certain details at the time of focus.

If we talk about the front camera, we have a 5 MP sensor with face detection and other interesting modes that will help your Selfies look like never before. The front camera is in the lower right and I must say that sometimes it is a bit uncomfortable to use it that way, but I guess it would be a matter of getting used to it, since we know it was put there to eliminate the upper bezel and have an innovative exterior without 3 bezels.

It has WiFi connection thanks to the 802.11 a / b / g / n controller, with capacity for 2 nano-type chip and has Bluetooth version 4.0. The GPS works quite well as well as the wireless connections as well.

With some of the software problems I mentioned earlier, I had some concerns about the battery running out quickly. but in the end it was not like that. The Bluboo S1 has a lithium-ion polymer battery of 3500 mAh, which offers us a 5-7 hour time with the screen turned on and intensive use with a single charge. With the supplied charger it takes a little less than 2 hours to charge the battery from 0-100%.
