A Look at the Awesome Logitech MX Ergo Mouse

One of the hottest ergonomic mouse out on the market in 2018 is the Logitech MX Ergo Mouse. Costing more than 3x the cost of many other mouse, this is one of Logitech’s more pricey offerings, though is it worth the extra chunk of change?

If you’re anything like me and spend most of your day working on a computer, chances are you’ve also discovered your fingers and wrist become fatigued and even painful after a while. Apart from taking frequent breaks, can the MX Ergo Mouse help offset some of the negative effects of using a regular mouse for prolonged periods of time? Surprisingly, yes.

Overview of the Logitech MX Ergo Mouse

This is a trackball mouse designed for right-handers which might well be a bit of a disappointment if you are left handed. Dimensions are 5.2 x 3.9 x 2.0 inches, making it somewhat larger than your regular mouse. Using a ball as a pointing device isn’t new at all, but Logitech, who have always been a known seller of trackballs, is bringing them back into prominence. In my opinion this is a good thing, as trackball mice require far less wrist movement than your regular mouse does.

Rechargeable Battery

One other thing worth noting with the Logitech MX Ergo is the use of a rechargeable battery as opposed to AA batteries. It is charged using a micro USB cable, and this is included. You’ll find the micro USB charging port on the front of the trackball, and there is also an LED on top of the trackball warning you of the battery status of the trackball. The battery should last you up to 4 months on a full charge. A few minutes of charge gives you a day’s usage.

Use with 2 Systems Simultaneously

The Logitech MX Ergo can connect to two computers. Work on two devices simultaneously and easily switch between them. This cool cross-computer feature is enhanced with the Logitech FLOW technology, allowing you to perform actions such as copy and paste and more between computers. Because it’s Bluetooth-compatible, you can connect the mouse to your tablet, phone or game console. The Options app allows you to customize buttons and manage settings as you want.

Switching between two computers using the MX Ergo is done by the Easy-Switch button. For use on a Linux system, you will need to install the Solaar package which you can install through whatever software package manager your distribution includes.

Angle your Way to Comfort

This mouse has an unusual adjustable hinge which allows you to choose the best angle for a more natural hand position. Choose the best angle – either 0 or 20゚. Angling your mouse reduces the twisting pressure on your wrist. This is one of the most innovative features of the MX Ergo, and for people prone to wrist or even carpal tunnel syndrome, a potential game changer. Jon Muller calls the MX Ergo one of the “most comfortable mouse” he’s used on ErgonomicTrends.com. ZDNet declares that the 20-degree tilt of the mouse does, in fact, reduce the twisting pressure on your wrist.

8 Buttons for Different Functions

The mouse has 8 buttons – the standard left and right buttons, 2 buttons next to the left click button which move backwards and forwards. There is also a clickable and tiltable scroll wheel which perform a host of functions.

There is a button next to the trackball that triggers Precision Mode. When you click it, cursor tracking is slowed, allowing you to perform precise movements. You’ll find the Precision Mode button on the side just above the ball. Change both speed and accuracy of your cursor by a mere press of a button. You’ll also notice a small LED which comes on when you activate Precision Mode.

Conclusion:

The Logitech MX Ergo is one of the few ergonomic mouse that actually lives up to its name of being more comfortable and productive than a regular mouse. Having used this mouse for over 2 months now, I can safely say it is the most comfortable mouse I’ve used in a long time. Its heavy weight limits its portability though, and as such, I recommend buying another mouse for pairing up with your laptop on the go.
